Busójárás
Embrace the Spirit
Background:
The Busójárás festival in Mohács, Hungary represents a centuries-old celebration of the Šokci community's cultural heritage. This annual carnival tradition culminates just before Ash Wednesday, bringing together locals and visitors to witness the iconic Buso masks and immerse themselves in the region's rich traditions. The assignment was to create a poster that would serve as a visual gateway to this celebration, capturing its energy and cultural significance while inviting viewers to experience the festival firsthand.
Solution:
The poster design centered on the striking imagery of the traditional Buso masks, using them as the visual anchor for the composition. Rather than presenting them as static artifacts, I brought them to life through dynamic imagery and carefully considered typography that radiated movement and celebration. I balanced cultural authenticity with contemporary visual language, creating an invitation that felt both rooted in tradition and visually engaging to modern audiences. The result was a poster that didn't just inform about the festival, but captured the festive spirit and encouraged viewers to be part of this cherished cultural moment.
